Site Projects / Status / Discussions & Updates
Rennick Family clock - The clock is installed and working. Steve commented it was quite a project, but it lights up now, and the location works well. Arthur said it was all very well done, in addition to the family raising money.
Dino Paving Co. has been hired to patch cart paths; work will be done when it gets scheduled (TBD).
Greenjacket Covers for the greens, ordered, have not arrived yet. Oval tennis wind screen has been installed at Tennis Courts.
Hole 16 TEE - want something in place so onlookers from street cannot distract golfer. Jim advised we can buy a green mesh construction screen and zip tie it to the fence. It is very durable; he will get a price. Chris recommended using plastic slats which are durable, and not permanent but work much better. Jim will get a quote. We will address it again at the next meeting.
Bill discussed a complaint from a golfer about no water on the course. Consulted with the Board of Health. Chris advised that down the line, a water line could be installed. Another option could be a touchless fountain water station recommended for the back nine. In the meantime, golfers must bring/use their water bottle.
Roof over the heat plant work to be done, quotes to be reviewed. Athur Athanas: Motion to replace the roof over the heat plant. Paul Sciamanna seconded. The motion carries (6-0).
Bridge/Culvert Hole 8/9 - Sean and Jim plan to install a safety rail for the bridge between hole 8 and 9. They will use big timbers to create a safety rail: Schedule pending.
Capital Projects
Bill went to Jerry Sullivan, previously involved with clubhouse renovation project, and asked him to go back into the plan looking at the windows. The architects quote estimate is to do the windows as a whole package. It would of course, have to go out to bid. Bill will ask them to come out to take another look at maybe doing it in phases or by floors. Needs further discussion.
Irrigation of the golf course. Steve Murphy talked to White Engineering, who did the pump station. Will want to get a system that could last 30 years to replacing the sprinkler system. Doing the new piping should last 100 years. Preliminary estimate for a new system is $3 million. Today the heads keep breaking etc., quote from White Engineering is $35K to design it. Bryant advised this could be done in a month as far as funding it. If you are going to pay $35K for the design, you should know how you plan to pay for it. Bryant says you are getting more expenses at the golf course. Bryant said there are competing priorities for the building, versus an irrigation system. Dave advised us to think of more ways to support spending this money, i.e., do membership fees go up, maybe green fees increase? Chris advised fees have not gone up in 5 years, but we are due to do it next year. Suggestion is to create multiple funding avenues. Bryant said to lay out prioritization with the group, he recommends we do an exercise as a group.
Chad asked Bryant if he can explain the debt and bond to us? Bryant advised he will present an amortization table so we can see what we can afford. Chad said it is a combo of fees, grants, plus the loans. Chad said it would be great to generate more revenue in the clubhouse.
Hole 18 - Dave said BSC has done 2 sets of drawings, one set for 1st tee, we must go back to the conservation commission and have a conversation. Where do we stand with Tibbetts? Dave said it could lead to litigation.
Steve discussed John's project on the 8th tee. (John was a guest at the meeting). John commented that markings that were done on the penalty areas are noticeably clear and hopes it can be maintained. He recommended tree management be done and said it can be impactful for golf. Athur asked for examples to be sent. One was on hole fifteen, when standing on the tee, you cannot see half of the green.
GFMI Update
Chris Carter advised July numbers were slightly under 7769 rounds, there were a few rain outs in July. Expect similar performance for August and September.
Revenue report - under what we expected, will result in higher green fees, will be looking at the membership list, and revenue at the 19th hole.
Chris thanked Jim T. for always being responsive, advised invoice coming from Secure Lock and Alarm for Door closure on Pub door, and supply and install a new lever on the cart building.
Arthur Athanas: Motion to adjourn, Kevin Asolillo seconded. The motion carries (6-0).
