MEETING MINUTES

Board: Golf and Tennis Commission Date: April 7, 2026 Location: Beverly Golf & Tennis Members Present: Chair William Lowd, Vice-Chair Martin Lawler, Kevin Ascolillo, Paul Sciamanna, Arthur Athanas Members Absent: Chad Crandall Guest: Chris Carter, Todd Rotundo

Minutes:

Kevin Ascolillo: Motion to approve the minutes of March 3, 2026, Martin Lawler seconded. The motion carries (5-0).

Financial Reporting:

Martin Lawler advised there is still a good budget balance moving forward for 2026.

Projects and Discussions:

• Councilor Todd Rotundo requested an opportunity to present a proposal to name the way heading into the Rates for Beverly Golf and Tennis after Jan Ernst Matzelinger, one of the individuals who played an important role in the founding and early days of the United Shoe Machinery Company. Commission agreed to the request (5-0)
• Golf rates for 2026 were approved by the City Council.
• Received bid for the resurfacing of the Tennis Courts:

Kevin Ascolillo: Motion to accept bid , second by Martin Lalwler. Motion carries (5-0)

• Tennis Courts are being prepared for resurfacing.
• Fairway for hole #18: Arthur has been monitoring all activity on this project with Steve Murphy and BSC. BSC has been contracted to provide latest information on what is needed to make corrections. Engineering working on options.
• Bridge from hole #8 green to #9 tee, needs reinforcement, Engineering Dept. submitted for a Grant, was denied, now working on alternate design ideas.
• Bruce Doig requested the commission & approved adding one handy cap parking space next to the path to the pro shop. Commission approved 5-0. Has been installed.

Commission Projects, Clubhouse activities:

18 Veranda railing: replace new height to code – Historic

32 Tennis courts: water pipes replaced on courts, tested ok, ready for Spring bid for resurfacing

11 Tennis building back wall to be replaced during Spring.#33 Awning for Veranda to be installed in March.

35B Develop a quote to replace roof over heat plant with entrance from clubhouse.

38 New security system for outside of clubhouse, waiting on quote for cameras.

40 Fence and shrub area at Elliott St. Green #15: Tree work completed along Elliott St. and clean up of the vines on the fence, stump grinding, and removal of trees around the Tennis Court area. Expect to install chain link fence along Elliott St. at Green #15.

GFMI Update, 2026 status:

Renick Family Memorial

Arthur is working with Todd Rotundo on the project. Fund raising has started with plaques. Expect to present the clock at the August tournament.

Marty Lawler: Motion to adjourn the meeting, Kevin Ascolillo seconded. The motion passes (5-0)
